A type of rustic window Shitaji-mado, which is made to appear as if the lath for a mud plastered wall had not been plastered over, leaving open an unfinished part, set in the side wall of an alcove "Tokonoma" in tea-ceremony houses or rooms. It is made for lighting so that ink calligraphy on a hanging paper scroll or flowers arranged in a vase are visible. Oribe Furuta drove a bent nail (Asagao-kugi) into a bamboo lath to hold a flower vase.
