WINDOW RESEARCH INSTITUTE

bugyo-mado

A window with thick vertical lattices, installed on the front side or gate of row houses in samurai residences. It may also refer a small window through which Noh performers can see the stage, which is placed on the side of the curtain of Kagami no Ma, a room with a large mirror where performers prepare themselves before going on the Noh stage. It is also called Monomi-mado or Arashi-mado for this meaning.
