shitaji-mado
A shitaji-mado is set in an unplastered part of a mud wall where the bamboo or reed laths are exposed. As seen in Japanese tea houses and farm houses, the window interior is often covered with an akari-shōji screen or akakeshōji hanging screen. Since the opening does not require a frame, the shape and position are flexible.
