CCA-WRI Research Fellowship Program

The Window Research Institute and the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) jointly run a research fellowship for researchers and practitioners exploring the built environment and its social, cultural, and environmental dimensions.

CCA-WRI Research Fellowship

Organized by the Window Research Institute (WRI) and the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA), the fellowship supports researchers and practitioners working across architecture and urbanism through research residencies and exchange at the CCA. Established in 2022, the program has supported 14 fellows to date.

The program is structured in three-year cycles, each organized around a common research theme. An annual open call invites proposals that engage with the theme, with three to four individuals or teams selected each year. Fellows receive a research stipend and financial support for travel and related expenses.

Fellows undertake a residency of up to three months at the CCA in Montréal, Canada, between July and October. Research may draw on the CCA Collection or involve fieldwork, depending on the project. The residency includes discussions with advisory committee members and invited experts, workshops, and public events, providing a forum for fellows from different disciplines and regions to exchange ideas and discuss ongoing research.

Open Call

Applications are now open for the 2027 fellowship. For details and application instructions, please visit the CCA website. The application deadline is 30 November 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST).

Canadian Centre for Architecture

The CCA-WRI partnership

The CCA and the WRI share an interest in architecture as a cultural, social, and environmental concern. Drawing on the CCA’s collection, research infrastructure, and international network, together with the WRI’s sustained research on windows as a lens onto architecture, the program creates opportunities for exchange and experimentation across disciplines and regions.
