Hagioscope
A small, obliquely angled opening cut into the wall or pier of a medieval European church. Commonly found in Christian ecclesiastical architecture, it was designed to allow specific individuals, such as those with infectious diseases or monks, to view the altar or monstrance from designated areas within the church, particularly the side aisles or chapels. Also called a squint.
