Oculus
A circular opening originating in ancient Roman architecture. Commonly found in Western classical buildings, examples include the oculus at the top of the Pantheon’s dome, as well as those found in ancient Roman baths, temples, and the façades of Renaissance buildings. The name derives from the Latin word oculus, meaning “eye.” See also round window.
